Sustain Unparalleled Excellence in Orchestral Education

You can secure the World Youth Symphony Orchestra’s future as the internationally-recognized home of  the world’s most talented young classical musicians.

Every summer, you can feel the energy as 120 young musicians from all over the world perform together at a level they’ve never experienced. They make lifelong friends who are just as passionate about music as they are. They leave Interlochen with the confidence to pursue their musical dreams.

Since 1928, Interlochen has brought leading conductors and guest artists from all over the world to play with these talented young WYSO musicians. Over the years, guest conductors from JoAnn Falletta to Carlos Kalmar and Christopher Rountree have inspired young musicians to reach their maximum potential. These conductors inspire breakthroughs in technical and creative abilities and thrill audiences with world-class performances. Students have played alongside leading professional artists Wynton Marsalis, Ani Kavafian, Yo-Yo Ma and Christine Brewer.

Provide a Glimpse Into a Future Orchestra Career

Each summer, 500 musicians apply to the High School Music program, but of the 250 admitted, only 120 will earn a competitive World Youth Symphony Orchestra spot. Once accepted, students must continue competing for their chair—re-auditioning every two weeks.

For six weeks, these young musicians:

  • Rehearse three ensemble hours daily
  • Practice chamber music daily
  • Learn new repertoire weekly
  • Attend private lessons with distinguished faculty weekly
  • Perform six times throughout the summer

These Camp students play a challenging repertoire that includes symphonic works from baroque to contemporary with a healthy sprinkling of world premieres of commissioned music.
